With Capture One 16.7.3, two new e-commerce ICC Profiles are introduced to help you get more precise color for e-commerce shoots. EcommStandard is designed for your final images, and will deliver color accuracy for clothing while keeping skin tones natural. EcommReference is a secondary profile you can use as a reference when you need more precision in the garment's color - it however comes with many other drawbacks that make this profile unfit for producing final images.

What are the Ecomm ICC Profiles?
We built two additional ICC color profiles specifically for e-commerce sets: EcommStandard and EcommReference. They’re designed to give you a more precise starting point for garments and clothing color, especially in tricky areas like blues, pinks, pastels, and bright saturated colors and neons.
- EcommStandard: Use this for your final e-commerce images. It’s designed for improved color accuracy while preserving pleasing skin tones.
- EcommReference: Use this as a color reference and correction tool. It’s intended for checking accuracy and critical colors, not for producing a final image.
Which profile should I choose?
Use this as a quick guide:
- Choose EcommStandard for final e-commerce output when you want improved product color accuracy while keeping skin tones natural.
- Choose EcommReference when you need to evaluate critical colors during correction. This profile can also be used as a reference point when working with more creative lighting or grading, allowing color corrections to be applied later in the workflow.
Tip: If you’re grading a set for a specific look, EcommReference can help you confirm key product colors before you sign off.
How to use EcommStandard and EcommReference
-
Open the Base Characteristics tool (typically in the Style Tool Tab).
- In ICC Profile, select EcommStandard or EcommReference.
If you’re working in a high-volume workflow, you can set the profile early in your process so your edits and Styles build on the rendering you plan to deliver. The best way to do that is to set it as a default profile in the Base Characteristics tool menu by selecting it first and clicking the ellipsis>Save as Defaults.
If you shoot different genres, and you don't want it as default, you can set it up in the Next Capture Adjustments tool via ICC drop-down menu > Copy from Primary or Copy from Last so that the first shot or last shot defines the color profile for the future ones in the set.
Using Ecomm profiles with Styles and color edits
If you have existing Styles, reevaluate them after switching profiles, especially if they include:
- Color grading
- Color edits (for example, changes made in the Color Editor)
Those adjustments can behave differently depending on the profile, particularly in saturated colors, neons, and pastels. If a Style was built around ProStandard, you may want to fine-tune it for EcommStandard to keep results consistent across a full set.

Sharing sessions and EIPs with Ecomm profiles
It's common to share images, Sessions, and EIPs between team members working on the same set. The notes below explain what to expect from Ecomm ICC profiles when you hand off work between different Capture One setups.
Sharing a session with All-in-One bundle or Pro users
You can hand off a session to someone who is running Capture One Pro or All-in-One bundle, in which case the Session will keep using the Ecomm ICC profile that was set when you saved it.
Note: if they change the ICC Profile in Base Characteristics, they won’t be able to select the Ecomm ICC profile again (it won’t appear in their dropdown). That means they can’t switch back to the Ecomm ICC profile by themselves.
Best practice: If Capture One Pro/ All-in-One bundle users need to work on the Session, ask them not to change anything in Base Characteristics (especially the ICC Profile).
EIP behavior when sharing Ecomm ICC profiles
Ecomm ICC profiles only transfer with an EIP to users running Capture One Studio. If you package and send an EIP, the profile itself won’t be included for non-Studio recipients.
Even when both people are using Studio, an imported EIP will follow the recipient’s default setting in the Base Characteristics tool. In practice, that means you can pack an EIP that uses an Ecomm ICC profile, but when someone else opens it, the ICC Profile may default to ProStandard (the default setting, unless they’ve changed it).
Recommendation: If you need consistent results after handoff, make sure your team aligns the default ICC Profile in Base Characteristics before sharing an EIP.
FAQ
What’s the difference between ProStandard and Ecomm profiles?
ProStandard is our best profile for all genres of photography except e-commerce, offering pleasing color and a contrasty look that works well across a wide range of subjects. The Ecomm profiles were created specifically for e-commerce jobs, giving you better results and helping you minimize manual color tweaks and deliver precise, repeatable results more efficiently.
How do I compare EcommStandard with ProStandard?
-
Go to the Image menu, then create a New Variant.
- Set each Variant to a different profile in Base Characteristics (for example, ProStandard in one and EcommStandard in the other).
- Select both Variants to compare them side by side.
Can I set EcommStandard or EcommReference as my default?
Yes. In Base Characteristics, select the profile, then choose Save as Defaults from the tool menu.
Can I include an Ecomm profile in a Style?
Yes. If an Ecomm profile is active when you save a Style in the Styles and Presets tool, it can be included in that Style. See more here on how to create a style: An overview of Styles
Do I need to update my existing Styles after switching profiles?
Often, yes. If a Style includes color grading or targeted color edits, review it with the new profile and adjust as needed to keep your output consistent.
