The Next Capture Keywords tool overview
The Next Capture Keywords tool allows you to enter the keywords that should be associated with the next captured image(s), ensuring that product shots will be categorized correctly from the start.
This approach is basically front-loading the keyword workflow in anticipation of the next shot. It solves the issue of having to capture the image(s) before being able to apply any keywords, which could be error-prone to entering the wrong keywords to the wrong image(s) at a later time.
The Next Capture Keywords tool is available in Capture One Studio. All the Studio features are also available in Capture One Enterprise.
Using the Next Capture Keywords tool
The Next Capture Keywords tool will let you enter the relevant keywords that should be associated with the next captured image(s). The tool is linked to the Keywords tool: once you have entered the desired keywords in the Next Capture Keywords tool and captured the image(s), the selected keywords will be applied to the image(s) and will show up in the Keywords tool.
1. Go to the Next Capture Keywords tool in the Capture tool tab.
2. Enter the keywords that should be associated with the next captured image(s) by clicking on the Enter Keywords field and enter the text. Insert a comma (,) to separate each text string as individual keywords. Remember to press Enter on the keyboard to apply them – each keyword will now be displayed as a grey box below the text field.
3. Ensure that the keywords are entered correctly in the Next Capture Keywords tool and capture the image(s). The keywords will be applied to the image(s) during capture.
4. If you want to verify that the keywords have been applied correctly during capture, select the image and check them in the Keywords tool.
Adding a keyword hierarchy
You can add keywords to be part of a keyword hierarchy while entering them. Just use a “>” between the words instead of a comma. For example, if you enter Product X -> Red -> Back, then Product X will be at the top of the hierarchy (parent), while Back will be the lowest (child).
Note that Capture One will not display the hierarchy in the Next Capture Keywords tool, but it will be visible in the Keyword Library tool. You can, however, inspect the hierarchy by hovering over a keyword in the tool.
Copying keywords from another image
You can automatically copy all the keywords from another image with the Copy Keywords from Primary feature. This is a great way to reuse some or all the keywords already entered. Once the keywords are copied to the Next Capture Keywords tool, you can add or remove any keywords.
1. Select the image that you want to copy the keywords from. If necessary, use the Keywords tool to verify that the keywords are correct.
2. Go to the Next Capture Keywords tool and click on the Copy Keywords from Primary button.
3. The keywords from the selected image will now be copied to the keywords field in the Next Capture Keywords tool.
4. Ensure that all the copied keywords are correct and capture the image(s). The keywords will be applied to the image(s) during capture.
You can add a keyboard shortcut to trigger the Copy Keywords from Primary functionality by selecting Edit -> Edit Keyboard Shortcuts. There is no shortcut assigned by default. Please read here about how to assign keyboard shortcuts.
Editing applied keywords
You can rename a keyword in the tool by right-clicking on it and choosing Rename… Then type in the new keyword string and press Enter on the keyboard.
If you need to edit the keywords that have already been applied to the captured image(s), select the image and edit the required text fields in the Keywords tool. It is important to point out that the Next Capture Keywords tool only controls what will be added to the next captured image, it cannot be used to edit the keywords on a selected image.
If you want to clear all the keywords fields at once, click on the Reset icon at the top of the Next Capture Keywords tool. If you only want to delete a single keyword, hover the cursor over the grey keyword box and click on the little cross or right-click and choose Remove Selected Keywords…
Using Presets
Presets are a great way to save and reuse commonly used keywords, potentially saving a lot of time. The Presets used with the Next Capture Keywords tool are shared with the Keywords tool and work the same way.
1. Go to the Next Capture Keywords tool and enter the required keywords.
2. Click on the small Preset icon and select Save User Preset. Click on the Save button. The Save dialog will open. Name and save the Preset.
3. You have now created a Keywords Preset that can be selected from the Preset menu in the Next Capture Keywords tool (and Keywords tool).
