Is there a Vibrance slider in Capture One?
ANSWER
In certain third-party software tools designed for photo-editing, there is a Vibrance slider available. It is based on the "intelligent" approach for adjusting the saturation. It means that the saturation is changed in a non-linear way so that skin tones and the areas that are already highly saturated will not be affected as much as the areas with low saturation.
Even though there is no Vibrance slider in Capture One as such, the Saturation slider in the Exposure tool and in the Basic Color Editor works with the same "intelligent" approach for adjusting saturation.
When dragging the Saturation slider in the Exposure tool to the right, sufficiently saturated areas will not be affected much so that prevents an image from being burnt out. When dragging the Saturation slider to the left, all the colors will be desaturated equally.
In the Basic Color Editor, when the multi-color patch is selected, the saturation of all colors can be adjusted using the Saturation slider which has a similar intelligent approach to that in the Exposure tool. When adjusting individual colors, the algorithm also prevents creating burnt-out areas.
In the Advanced Color Editor, all pixels in the image are treated equally which is different from the approach used in the Basic Color Editor. Thus, the change in saturation for both highlight and low saturated areas will be the same.
