macOS 10.15.2 - Tethered shooting broken
After the update to macOS 10.15.2 tethered shooting with the latest version of Capture One 13.0 is broken. No connection can be accomplished and the camera will not show up in C1. There was a change in the OS that causes the issue. Apple support confirmed this just now. This change also affects Lightroom, for anybody interested.

Moreover the tethering issue with C1 20, My Sony A7rIII refuse to connect to my macbook: it remains in a ‘connecting’ mode but nothing else happens, no volumes mounted on Finder.
I think the issue it’s definitely in macOS side.
download sony software suite works just fine, should also work with hot folder in C20
Not for me, I've just downloaded the latest version of Sony Suite and tried tethering with Remote app:
still unable to connect to my A7rIII.
i am on 10.5.2 and the latest sony suite (which is the first one to support catalina) and both A7RIII and RX1RII connect, show live view and capture tethered....this is on a 2016 mbp0 -

Just tried tethering into Darktable with this result:'No camera with tethering support available for use'.
The Sony Remote app installed is the 2.0.02, and when i select my A7rIII in the list of the camera available a prompt message tell me that the camera in not connected, then the app crash.
Here MacBook Pro mid 2014 and camera connected via usb-a, Catalina 10.15.2 obviously.0 -
After about 2 hours at phone with Apple Support Italy here the results:
We have created a new Administator Account on my MacBook Pro and magically everything returns to life, tether my A7rIII works with every app installed (Sony Remote, C1Pro 20, Lightroom 9.1, Darktable). So Apple Support tell me that maybe there's something wrong with permission in my account.
So we turn back to my account and tried to reset permission with this procedure:
https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT203538
then I restarted my Macbook.
C1Pro 20 and Darktable finally see my Sony and now I can work again 😄
The only one app that doesn't work yet is Sony Remote, but this is another mistery.0 -

Mistery solved!
The app 'Backup and Sync by Google' was the problem (some kind of conflict I think). So I disabled it from Activity Monitor and finally even Sony Remote works again!0 -

Ah yes, I think I remember a thread some time ago where that was causing problems.

This recently created FAQ page may be useful for future reference.

Case 2, point 4 mentions the Google application so it seems to be up to date.
The new FAQ pages have been growing in number quite rapidly and are starting to look like a useful resource once the right article is found and one gets into the content.

hmmm....repaired my permissions, ran the script in terminal, dont use google drive (so i dont have the backup and sync app)
C1 20 still does not work, and neither does the sony app now....
also created a new user, cant tether with the new user either...

Hi folks,
Lots of misery and no real answers still -- I can only assume the thousands of frustrated and wasted hours from the users.
I do wonder if this has something directly related to the PTP protocol that a lot of these cameras use. Canon released a security bulletin on the 6th of Aug;
I believe Apple may have patched something on OSX relating to this bug, so that should the cameras firmware not be updated (many won't), this attack could not be orchestrated sideways through the OS.
This is hearsay and conjecture. But I haven't found anything close to a true source of the issue.
https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2019-5994
http://cve.circl.lu/cve/CVE-2019-5995(CVE-ID:CVE-2019-5994, CVE-2019-5995, CVE-2019-5998, CVE-2019-5999, CVE-2019-6000, CVE-2019-6001)
Due to these vulnerabilities, the potential exists for third-party attack on the camera if the camera is connected to a PC or mobile device that has been hijacked through an unsecured network.

https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/self-help-center/canon-software
Should Apple have closed this loophole in their kernel/driver space silently in 10.15.2 this would explain and indicate that a new driver or extension bundled with a Capture One update could fix the issue.
I believe these are related as...

for those who need to get c1 working again don't follow the c1 advice and revert back It is not needed !!
there is a much better option with Catalina - volumes check it out:
https://support.apple.com/guide/disk-utility/add-erase-or-delete-apfs-volumes-dskua9e6a110/19.0/mac/10.15
so the only thing you need to have is some free space on your HD for the older os to install. make sure you have a backup if something went wrong !
with newer Macs featuring a fast usb-c connection I also would rather install the old os on an external SSD drive than changing the whole system which my lead to other issues.0 -

https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac-software/dual-boot-mac-3659676/. .. does this help ?
and btw I think it is the same self centric attitude which many see as a problem when c1 recommends a dangerous system revert which should be the ultima ratio and may affect other application on the system which are already up to date and not this easy fix.0 -

This is what I've done with Apple Support (if you want to try, do it at your own risk):
-Deleted files for Ëœuser/library/Caches
-Deleted files for Ëœuser/library/LaunchAgents
-Deleted files for HD/library/LaunchDaemons
-Switched off the macbook, reboot resetting the SMC (Shift-Control-Option + Power button for about 10 seconds), issue still present.
-Reboot macOS in Safe Mode holding Shift button, logged in with my account and tested the tethering with my Sony: magically worked again.
-Reboot again in Normal Mode, logged in with my account and tested the tethering: nothing.
-We've created a new Administrator user and tested the tethering: and it worked!
-Logged out and logged in with my user, repaired permission with the Apple Support procedure, reboot my machine.
-Logged in with my user and tried again: now seems to work.
This long procedure worked for me but I repeat: if you want to try, do it at your own risk.PSS wrote:

If your camera it's a Sony you have to connect it in PC Remote Mode, selecting the option in menu of the camera before connecting it to you machine.0 -
The root cause of this issue is that Apple has changed the requirements for applications that want to access a PTP-connected capture device. This cannot be resolved by user-side trouble-shooting. We are working on an update that will be compatible with macOS 10.15.2. Until this is released, please do not update to 10.15.2.

That's their last statement, so nobody knows...
We can't comment on a possible timeframe. It's unfortunately not always easy to accommodate unforeseen changes in operating systems.
It is a high priority issue and R&D are working on solving it.
Please keep in mind, that due to our policy we do not comment or give out any information on future products and development.0 -

developer beta 10.15.3 out today....just saying.... 0 -
As well as the developer Beta 10.15.3 starting... I've also just come off a chat session with Apple and acquired a link to the full OS of 10.15.1 The link is below.
Now, this is of no use if you are not comfortable in a complete re-install so don't even attempt it if you're not used to doing this but if you are, then the last working (non beta) version is the one below. Use it at your own risk. If you have to ask questions about how to use it, it's reasonable to assume you shouldn't and that you should wait it out. Data can be lost if you muck things up.
https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2022?locale=en_US
Edit, just finished this myself. The file apple linked to is the update file only, make sure you download the base 10.15and install that and then add the linked file above.0 -

Thank you. The issue is that it can be hard to find the 10.15.0 installer, or the 10.15.1.0 -

Yeah... I'd just picked up a maxed out Mac mini which did have the 10.15 as a base but couldn't find the update. Just going to make a clone of the system now.
Edit. If anyone wants to install the original os from recovery, use shift+option+command+r and not just command+r0 -
easiest solution is to install a clean 10.5 system on an external SSD and install C1 on that as well, use external as startup drive....when phase has a fix, just wipe that drive....the internal system can stay at 10.15.2....
i guess the issue is to find a 10.5.0/1 installer at this point?0 -
Those solutions do not work.
shift+option+command+r doesn't take me back to 10.15.1 on my new MBP 16"
There is no place to download 10.15.0
10.15.1 is only an update it requires full install of 10.150 -
