Capture One 10 not supported on Windows Fall Creators Update
Fall Creators Edition of Windows (1709) has introduced a change to filehandling, which Capture One uses. This causes adjustments made running with the update to not be read by Capture One, as CO setting files are being corrupted. We are currently looking for a solution.
Capture One 10 does not support Windows 10 Fall Creators update.
We recommend users to downgrade to 1703 or lower in order for Capture One to work as designed, because of the introduced change to the OS described above.

I'm using it and it seems to work, what should I be looking for?
I know there's a change to files stored in OneDrive, older backup software I have can no longer copy files created since I updated. However, I don't work with Capture One in OneDrive, I move completed sessions into OneDrive manually.0 -

From what we can see, all 1709 installations are indeed affected.0 -

Thanks. Yes, I see the TMP files in the settings folder, but they are not there for every photo. I haven't lost any settings if I delete the TMP files.
I can't really go back in Windows, I had to make big changes to my backup routines which involved uninstalling old software, installing new software, and changing my backup procedures. I don't want to go through this process again, so I guess I'll have to wait! I'm sure there are many others in the same situation.0 -
I am seeing no problems at all with fall creators update. Note I am working with a catalogue not session. 0 -

Does this affect previous versions of C1, i.e., 9 and older? If so, will the older versions receive a patch? 0 -

I'm new to C1 and have likewise seen no issue but also am using a catalogue. All of my image edits / settings are being saved appropriately between sessions and I haven't seen any abnormal behavior since my machine updated.. but perhaps I don't know what to look for either. 😉0 -

It would be nice to think that the the fabulously wealthy Microsoft will fix any compatibility problem rather than expecting much smaller developers, possibly many of them, to have to carry the cost of an application update for a version that is no longer current.
See which way MS seemed to be heading I stayed with Windows 7.

I can't really go back in Windows,
I *have* seen adjustments lost (in a Session) and I suspect it might be because I deleted the wrong TMP file / moved an adjusted photo and the TMP file didn't follow it. I'd urge caution.
I too cannot simply revert. This is a bit of a disaster for me because I need to get a shoot edited and out the door ASAP, if anyone's discovered a workaround I'm all ears. I use Sessions exclusively, due to the transferability of them (no reliance on a centralized DB, can switch between Sessions easily and pick up where you left off, etc.)0 -
Anyone that's experiencing the issue tried running C1 in compatibility mode? 0 -

Thanks for the suggestion, but TMP files are still created and orphaned in Win8 and Win7 compatibility mode.0 -
I guess it's time to switch over to the Business branch of semi-annual updates.

For many users, myself included, a downgrade is not possible, as Microsoft does not publicly allow downloads of earlier builds (for instance, its Media Creation Tool only downloads the latest official build), so anyone with a new computer, a clean install with no more 1703 installation sources or someone who upgraded but then got rid of the earlier version through the Windows Disk Cleanup Utility cannot go back to 1703 without hunting through the web for some kind of dodgy ISO.
This is a real bummer for sure.0 -

Time to hassle Microsoft?0 -
Hi,
I'm a new user to C1.
I feel your pain. However, it is possible to revert to a previous Windows state if you maintain disk images from previous sessions which fully backup your system drive. I use Acronis Backup for that very purpose.
Best,

Same Problem here,
both on laptop and desktop. first i thought the ram of the laptop is broken but since it's also happening on the desktop it's really annoying. how can this happen? looking forward for a fast fix of this issue.
Issue with 10.2
since Windows Fall Creators Update version 1709
I use mainly sessions
Verify shows that everything is ok.
Settings folder is full with TMP files. See example:
Pic_171019_SK75856.IIQ
Pic_171019_SK75856.IIQ.cos~RFed591b.TMP
Pic_171019_SK75856.IIQ.cos~RFed591b.TMP~RF15544fd.TMP
Pic_171019_SK75856.IIQ.cos~RFed591b.TMP~RF15544fd.TMP~RF155718b.TMP
Does not happen all the time. At a certain point it starts not to save the changes.
After opening you see the changes in the Preview Images but the moment it loads the
hires the changes are gone.
deleting the old *.cos and renaming for example the latest *.tmp to *.cos does not bring the changes back.
it's almost impossible to downgrade windows after a fresh install.
now i am quite insecure / scared to shoot tethered (IQ250) on my next assignments
and my clients are waiting for the current results. this issue makes Capture One almost useless.
please help.0 -

I know as I said before that OneDrive file structure has changed and affected my backup software, but I cannot find any mention of file handling changes anywhere else, nor mention of other software that has been affected by this Windows update.
So, since a quick patch was not forthcoming, I'm curious as to the nature of the issue here. What exactly is the problem? Why aren't thousands of other software applications that write files affected?0 -

Christian, can we please get an updated statement / ETA from PhaseOne? For many, downgrading off the Fall Creators Update is not possible or feasible.0 -
I'm not sure, but if I remember correctly, selecting 'Current Business Branch', in the update settings, downgrades to the last fully stable build.
I think this is strictly a Pro and Enterprise licence feature however, so not available on Windows 10 Home devices.
PS: Booting up a test machine to confirm.0 -

Indeed, it is not possible. You'd have to download an ISO of 1703, burn it to a disk or make a bootable USB stick from it, launch the installation, format your main drive, reinstall Windows and every program from scratch, and then of course make sure to postpone 1709 in Windows Update. I just did all of that today after doing a clean install of 1709 a few days ago. What a pain.0 -
Phase One, your timing is atrocious. Adobe has just recently pulled the plug on LR perpetual licensing and some number of disgruntled LR users are looking for alternatives. This current fiasco will do nothing to persuade them to come aboard the C1 ship unless it is dealt with pretty quickly. And, while you're at it, you may wish to come up with an answer to the question, "How the did you allow this to happen in the first place?" 0 -

Brilliant! Let them noobs go shop elsewhere and cry in a corner.0 -
With launch of now available Capture One 10.2.1, the issue has been fixed.
