Mountain Lion and Tethering
Upgraded the new Mountain Lion and when tethering to Capture One 6.4.3 I get an error saying unable to connect camera. Tried other cables and restarting but still the same error message. Before upgrading I had no issue. I'm using Canon 5D MarkII. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I have the same issue. Same gear too. 0 -
I've tested the Canon 5D Mark II on my Mountain Lion machine without any issues so I would suggest you create a support case and provide us some details. 0 -
I have issues as well with tethering a Canon 5D mkII to Mountain Lion.
Setup
Canon 5D mkII firmware 2.1.2; MBP 4,1 (2008) 4 GB RAM; CO Pro 6.4.3; OS X 10.8.0
Starting CO 6, connecting camera, switching it on. CO 6 is not able to make a connection. Events dialog logs repeatedly Capture Error, while the Activities window displays the message Attaching camera - Estimated time remaining...
In Activity Monitor I can see the CaptureCoreServer is repeatedly restarting.
From the CaptureCC.log I read that the camera is detected when switched on, threads are stopped, and the service restarts.
I'll open a case.
As a side note, a Phase One 645DF with IQ160 is tethering fine in the same setup.0 -
Same exact problem in our studio - same equipment too and it happened after we upgraded
to Mountain Lion
Tested both our 5d mark II's and both could not establish a connection
We also tried a complete reinstall and that didn't solve it either.

I'm having the same problem: unable to connect with OS 10.8 and C1 6.4.3. My Canon 1Ds MK II simply won't connect. My 5D Mk III freezes the program. I only upgraded to Mountain Lion based on PhaseOne's C1 upgrade that claimed both Mountain Lion compatibility and a new driver for the 5D Mk III. And I have a shoot in the morning. What now? 0 -
i was *just* about to make the plunge and upgrade to mountain lion, until I read this. Glad I did, since I have a shoot this week that I will need to tether my mark2 to. This reminds me of what happened when Lion came out, and killed tethering of the first generation 5D. I wonder if the same thing is happening and Apple is doing something wonky to the USB drivers? (although to be fair, the first gen 5D is not out any more, and they are still selling the mark2 as well as the mark3). 0 -

Try CO 6.4.1. It did not crash on my 10.8 system and you'll have the older SDK, which seems to handle the 1Ds MK II better.
Maybe you'd better stayed on 10.7 for a while and have both CO 6.4.3 or later for your 5D MKIII and a renamed earlier version for your 1Ds MKII.0 -
Yep, same setup (Mark II, C1Pro 6.4.3, OSX 10.8 ) -> same problems for me.
Tethered shooting not possible.
Always a good idea to install new OS's on a seperate partition . . .0 -
Please consider uses when writing release notes. Patience and faith is limited....another hiccup and still unable to shoot my 5dmarkiii tethered after waiting for so long... urgh.
from release notes which I based my decisions on...
OS Support
• Added support for Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.
Camera Support
• Preliminary file support for Canon 1D X.
• Tethered support for Canon 1D X and 5D Mark III.
• Tethered support for Nikon D4, D800 and D800E.
(thankfully I bought some good card readers)0 -
Oh! I'm not alone!! LOL
Mac Book Pro, C1 6.4.3, Mac OS 10.8, Canon 5D MkII.0 -
Looks like the Mountain Lion Prerelease and the final release aren't the same 😭
If you're using a Canon 5D Mark II, or older camera (supported in 6.4.2) please downgrade the software in Mountain Lion to Capture One 6.4.2 so that you can tether with these cameras as the older Canon SDK seems to work fine based on our initial testing.

We're looking into the issue but it doesn't seem like a simple fix as we first need to identify what Apple has changed. I apologize for the inconvenience... just another headache in the early adaptation of an OS ☹️0 -

The release notes are accurate, and based on the Prerelease version of Mountain Lion that Apple supplied, tethering with the Canon 5D Mark III in Capture One 6.4.3 works just fine. Unfortunately, the final release of Mountain Lion changed from the Prerelease (somehow?) and tethered operation of the Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 1Dx no longer works. We are currently looking into the cause. Thank you for your patience.0 -
5DmkIII and Mountain Lion cant tether either

Frank,
For the 7D, please try Capture One 6.4.2 on Mountain Lion.
In regard to the 5D Mark III, it seems even Canon EOS utilities is not compatible with Mountain Lion so there does not seem to be an alternative except to downgrade to a 10.7.x installation.0 -
Trying to tether my 5D mkII crashes Capture One.
just bought:
Capture one 6.4.3
&
Mac OS 10.8
this combo doesn't work "out of the box"
looking forward to a solution,
please help!0 -
I posted earlier about not being able to shoot with either my canon 1ds Mk II or 5d mk III and Moutain Lion/C1 Pro 6.4.3.
I reverted back to 6.4.2 and can shoot with the 1ds Mk II without problems. A few insignificant oddities with Mountain Lion but not a single hangup in a session with over 500 captures.
The 5d mk III will have to wait for the next fix C1 upgrade.0 -

I hope I read this earlier but I have upgraded all my computeres last night to Mountain Lion and today I was shooting a job that both my 1DsIII and 5DIII and Nikon D800E does not work either! Painful, I ahve to shoot to card and import to Capture One every so often to be sure. 0 -

Using Capture One 6.4.2 you should be able to shoot tethered with the Canon 1DsIII and NIkon D800E (using the workaround). That should get you up and running but unfortunately there is no immediate solution for the Canon 5D MarkIII as we are still working to identify what Apple has changed in the final release of Mountain Lion.

@drew,
Canon utility works flawless over here, using it with the hot folder import from lightroom4.
C1 keeps attaching camera however, happens since installation of ML.0 -
any update? 0 -
as much as i like c1 for tethered shooting this time i will not wait or revert to 10.7 only because 2 major players are not able to update there software in advance so it is tested and ready with the release of the new os. something small companies are able to do without long discussions. mountain lion is such a great update and all other imaging software and plugins i use work without any problems !
although i use aperture als catalog software since version 1 i never thought about using it for tether shooting. what a mistake, aperture connects without problems to my canon - 1ds3, 5d2, 5d3 and to my surprise the previews come in very fast, faster than c1 ( dated mac pro with ssd ) ! the tether option is rather basic but stable. the full-sreen mode is beautiful. for me this is a reliable solution till c1 gets updated and maybe c1 engineers take a look at apple core to get it working again 😉0 -

Aperature is made by Apple, so it would really be saying something if that didn't work in their own OS 😉 . As previously stated in this thread, it seems Mountain Lion changed something between the Developer Release and the Final Release. As such, the hard work we put in to build and test support for tethering in Mountain Lion was all for naught. (Using the Developer version of Mountain Lion works just fine).
We're looking into it as we speak and we hope to have an update soon, unfortunately it will take some time.0 -

why would you ever update the OS of your shooting computers and then try to shoot a job?
makes no sense.
Apple has never shared any inside info with developers (except some like Adobe) before a OS release so you have to expect things to not work right away.0 -

Thanks Drew0 -
Does anyone read the thread before they post? Seriously. Drew is too patient with you.
Secondly, you should have not one but at least two backup capture methods to be able to complete any job. That means another computer with a tested and working OS and capture software, a second body, an alternate method of capture migration (card reader) and possibly even a second (different) camera system. If you had working backups in place there would be no panic. You're supposed to be creative problem solvers... sheesh.
Thanks Drew - 6.4.2 works great.

There are different mk3 models from Canon, but as far as I know no issues exist with the combination mentioned.0
