Mountain Lion and Tethering
Upgraded the new Mountain Lion and when tethering to Capture One 6.4.3 I get an error saying unable to connect camera. Tried other cables and restarting but still the same error message. Before upgrading I had no issue. I'm using Canon 5D MarkII. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi,
I don't have first-hand knowledge, but my understanding is that in 10.8, the latest version of Aperture will tether to a Canon 5DMkIII.
Good luck.

The Helicon Remote software works just fine on Mountain Lion and even with the 5D Mkiii. I'm using it with Capture One's Hot Folder enabled.

I've had this issue and submitted case reports and it took about 3-4 emails for support to admit this was a known issue after implying that it was either my computer's fault or user error. The support staff said the issue was something about the OS interrupting the camera sync or something like that.
Hopefully they're still working on the issue although I haven't tried tethering on the new 10.8.2 update however.0 -
Mark - what could possibly be so important about 10.8 that you would forgo a job b/c C1P doesn't work with it? Notification center? Notes app? I sense you are exaggerating.
That's your fault for not knowing your gear and figuring out a workaround. You want a fix - use a different computer, have a separate boot partition with 10.6 or 10.7 for tethering. Hire a tech that knows what he/she is doing.[quote="Mark178" wrote:
I need to find a fix for this problem. My question is, if this is a "license issue" between Canon and Apple, does that mean all capture software is suddenly nonfunctional? As a temporary fix, I would consider using Aperture or Canon's capture software, but I can't confirm if they work or not with the 5Diii.
Anyone here know of anything that still works with this OS? I promise to come back to Capture One when it works, but I need something now and I don't want to lose OS 10.8.
I went to the Apple Store today. Their Genius Bar knew nothing about it and wouldn't guarantee Aperture works! I walked away from a $1500 dollar job today. I probably lost one of my best clients. I can't afford much more of this BS.0 -
Hi Edward51
I agree - no one in their right mind risks shooting for a client on a system they have changed without testing first. Unbelievable! Still, it leaves more clients for the rest of us!
I downloaded the latest updates from Canon today for EOS Utility & DPP which now brings compatibility with Mountain Lion.
I can now shoot tethered with my 1DX through EOS Utility to 10.8.1 Macbook Pro (non Retina) and it works great - quick as well.
I did try tethering my 1DX to C1 6.4.4 on the chance that the new EOS Utility had made any "under the surface" changes but unfortunately not, we'll have to wait for Phase One to update the tethered feature for Mountain Lion. For now I will continue to use use my 10.7 boot partition to shoot tethered to C1 6.4.4. Easy!
Hope this helps

Not too condescending. Aren't you so smart. But as tech support for C1 says, it was working. I had been shooting on ML for almost a month. Capture One specs says it was compatible. It WAS compatible. But yeah, my fault.
My system went down on location, on the job. Sorry, no time to hire someone as smart as you with my clients waiting in the wings. And yes, it was my fault for not bringing all my other computers as backup. Oh wait. I don't have any other computers dedicated to my photo business.
Since you are perfect and don't have any problems, why the hell are you even on this forum? You just want to be superior? According to you, I should "figure out a workaround". Duh... that is what this forum is for.

Great! Another jerk. I had just shot a job the day before. The system has been well tested. I don't recall doing any updates.
You can blame me. I just came on the forum to see what was going on. Capture One techs don't know. I don't really know. But you know! You and Edward51 have a lot in common. So smart. Why the hell would anyone come on this forum looking for answers when they can get a lecture from some Brit with a bad attitude.
Come on over. Try and take my clients if that is your attitude. With a personality like yours, you will lose them on the first shoot.

NN7711,
Since you are shooting with a Mark iii, you might buy some time using an Eye-Fi SD card. If you shoot in RAW, change to RAW + Small JPG. You can set up the card to go "Direct" to computer, (faster than wifi). It has a range of 90 feet. Set it up to send jpegs only. Then, transfer the RAW images with a card reader later. If you have any trouble, EyeFi's tech support is very responsive. Its a good temporary fix until the Canon / Apple thing is fixed.
Also, as mentioned on a different thread, you can possibly fix it yourself by following the instructions on: viewtopic.php?f=40&t=12926

I too am not able to tether my Canon 5D MKII since updating my Mac OS to 10.8. Currently I am running C1 ver 6.4.3, am I correct in assuming that ver 6.4.2 should solve this problem? If so how do I go about loading the older 6.4.2? Checked the download area on CaptureOne's website but I am not able to find it
Also, I am quite certain that this is not a cable issue as I am still able to tether vis LR 4.
I appreciate any help with this problem.
Thanks,
Paul
Since this post I downloaded the C! 6.4.5 and it seems to be working.0 -
