I always "X" out of the program. Based on your question I tried File > Close Window AND File > Exit and regardless of how I close the program the same image is highlighted when CO is reopened.

Paolo - I am seeing the same thing, and have been wondering why when I re-open C1 it never seems to reopen to the last edited image. I only use catalogs. Anyone have any ideas?
