Hi Ian, That's what I usally do but having the ability to add contrast to the mask locally with dodge/burn brush helps to have a more detailed mask on the edges ;)

Try creating a backup of that catalog, and check off Optimize Catalog. This should clear up any lingering issues due to unused indexes in the catalog database.This is what the support told me to do...
