Have you tried using the Linear Response Curve rather than the Film Curves? I found it gives me better results. Once you make adjustments you can save it as your default profile.

I also had a delay in showing adjustments until a day ago. I did several things including cleaning out some caches because they contained corrupted files I believe was caused by several CO7 crashes...

If you are using a different drive for image storage you would start there. You might try clicking on the storage drive using Windows Explorer and then start CO8 and see if that makes a difference.
