We understand that there has been interest from the community regarding support for the Hasselblad X2D 100C in Capture One. At this time, we want to clarify the current position and the technical and relational reasons behind it.
Current status
Support for the Hasselblad X2D 100C is not currently planned in Capture One.
This status reflects both technical considerations and the nature of our relationship with the manufacturer.
Technical requirements for camera support
Adding support for any new camera in Capture One involves more than simply enabling file compatibility or metadata reading. Each supported camera undergoes a comprehensive calibration and validation process, including:
-
Color profiling across a wide range of lighting conditions
-
Lens and sensor calibration
-
Optimization of RAW file interpretation
This process ensures that images from each camera are rendered accurately, consistently, and beautifully within Capture One. It also requires close cooperation with the camera manufacturer to access the necessary technical specifications and support during development.
Manufacturer relationship considerations
Capture One works closely with manufacturers to provide camera support with the quality and reliability our users expect from us. In the case of Hasselblad, there's history that prevented that.
As Capture One CEO Rafael Orta explained:
“We have noticed the requests for supporting Hasselblad cameras from our community, and we have responded to them—unfortunately not the answer you’ll likely want to hear.”
“As you say, the relationship between Phase One and Hasselblad was notoriously antagonistic, and as I’m sure you’ll know from life experience, it takes a second to blow up a bridge and a very long time to rebuild it.”
What the future beholds
While support is not currently planned, Rafael further clarified:
“I’m not going to say never, but I can’t commit to a timeline either, so for now we’ve taken the stance of openly saying that it’s ‘Not currently planned’, and we will of course update that information if and when circumstances allow.”
