Web Contact Sheet (Legacy)

You can create a web-based contact sheet in Capture One to share selected images with others. This feature also allows you to include captions for better clarity and organization.

Note: Web Contact Sheets was supported starting from Capture One 7 up to Capture One 16.6.6. It is now substituted with the Contact Sheets feature available in 16.7.0 and greater.

What is a Web Contact Sheet?

A Web Contact Sheet is an HTML-based gallery you can export from Capture One. It allows you to showcase selected images with customizable settings, including layout, background color, image size, and optional captions. The resulting gallery can be viewed in any web browser and shared easily.

How to Create a Web Contact Sheet

1. Select the images you want to include in the Browser.
2. Go to File > Export > Web Contact Sheet.
3. In the Web Contact Sheet window, set your options:
   • Destination: Choose where to save the folder containing HTML, CSS, and image files.
   • Template: Choose a layout and style.
   • Size: Adjust the dimensions for your images.
   • Rows/Columns: Set how many images display per row/column.
   • Spacing: Adjust the space between thumbnails.
   • Background: Set the background color.
   • Caption: Enable and select metadata to display (explained below).
4. Check Show after Export to open the gallery automatically in your browser.
5. Click Export.

How to Add Image Captions
 

1. After selecting images, go to File > Export Web Contact Sheet.
2. In the Web Contact Sheet window, locate the Images tool section.
3. Use the Caption dropdown to choose a metadata field (e.g., Description, Title, or Keywords).
4. To preview captions in the exported gallery, ensure the Caption option is checked.
5. Click Export to generate the gallery with captions.

FAQ

How do I change the template of the Web Contact Sheet?

You can select different templates from the Template dropdown in the export window. Each template changes the layout and look of the final web gallery.

Can I edit the HTML of the Web Contact Sheet?

Yes, the exported contact sheet includes editable HTML and CSS files, so you can customize it further using a code editor.

What metadata can I use for captions?

You can choose from several metadata fields including:

• Title
• Keywords
• Filename

Will the Web Contact Sheet work offline?

Yes. Once exported, the contact sheet can be viewed offline in any modern web browser.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Select Thumbnails: In the Browser, select the image thumbnails you want to include.
2. Open Web Contact Sheet Export: Go to File > Export > Web Contact Sheet.
3. Set Export Options: Configure the destination folder, layout template, image size, rows/columns, spacing, and background color.
4. Add Captions (Optional): In the Images tool section, select a caption field from the dropdown.
5. Export and View: Enable Show after Export if you want the gallery to open automatically. Click Export.

• The exported gallery includes HTML, image files, and stylesheets in one folder.
• You can upload the entire folder to a web server for public access.

Troubleshooting

Web Contact Sheet doesn't open after export

• Make sure Show after Export is checked.
• Check if your browser is blocking pop-ups or local files.

Captions aren’t displaying

• Confirm that you've selected a caption field from the Images tool.
• Make sure metadata is populated for the selected field in each image.

Images appear too large or small

• Adjust the Size option in the export settings to resize thumbnails.
