Capture One supports a range of Fujifilm Film Simulations like Fujifilm Provia and Fujifilm Velvia when working with Fujifilm RAF raw files. The different Film Simulations are available from the Curve drop-down menu in the Base Characteristics tool in the Color tool tab when working on an applicable Fujifilm RAF raw file. This is available in both Capture One Pro and Capture One Pro (for Fujifilm)
If you have selected a Fujifilm Film Simulation style in your Fujifilm camera, Capture One will automatically apply the corresponding style to the RAF raw files. This is the default behavior as long as Auto is selected in the Curve drop-down menu.
Note that this is a change from how Capture One 11 rendered the RAF raw files by default since prior versions did not support Fujifilm Film Simulations and instead rendered the RAF raw files with Phase One optimized colors and tone curve.
You should also be aware that the different Fujifilm Film Simulation styles under Curve will not only affect the tone curve (e.g. contrast and light balance) but also the colors. This is because the Fujifilm Film Simulation styles have an ICC profile applied under the hood.
You can change the default behavior by selecting Film Standard from the Curve drop-down menu, then click on the action icon in the Base Characteristics tool and select Save as Defaults for Fujifilm XXX. The RAF raw files will now be rendered with Phase One optimized colors and tone curve instead of the in-camera selected Fujifilm Film Simulation style.
Please see the table which lists all the cameras that support Fujifilm simulations in Capture One.

To choose the profile, select it from the Curve dropdown menu in the Base Characteristics tool.
If the film simulations do not appear, be sure the camera model is supported (in the chart above) and also that the file is not a JPG. Only RAW (RAF) files are supported.
NOTE: Fujifilm Film Simulations are available in Capture One 12 and newer versions.

I'm disappointed more camera models aren't supported.
Would love to see at least Provia simulation support for X-Pro1 (and other X-Trans 1 Fuji cameras) to match the RAWs with the camera base JPEG colors and start editing from that.
Film standard curve can deviate quite a lot from what seen in the viewfinder.
Is there a reason why this is only applicable to a specific model of the X100F series of cameras instead of the wider range of the series?
A better support for Fuji Film simulations is one of the key reason why I decided to purchase the license for Capture One.
The problem with Capture One Fujifilm sims is that they don't match the Fujifilm colors at all, to the point that they seem to be useless. I've been comparing RAF files from my X-Pro2 to out-of-camera Jpegs, mostly with Pro-Neg Std. The RAF files were set to Auto or Pro-Neg Std (no difference). The Capture One (21) processed RAF files have a distinct green cast to them compared to the camera Jpegs. And it is not only Pro-Neg Std. All of the color film simulations seem to have a green cast. I am viewing on a Macbook Pro with Retina display.
Please Lily add the color profiles for Fujifilm X-E2s !
Why is it that if I use in-camera Fuji simulations they do not get captured in the EXIF data (or anywhere else)? I have no idea what I used...am I supposed to take notes? Or strictly use the simulations in C1? I am told when you use them in-camera in LR they do show up when processed.
It would be really fantastic if when you open a fuji RAW file on Capture one it would show the film simulation that was chosen in camera when shot. Right now it just shows auto. But I think the default should be whatever was chosen in camera so we can see what we used.
Thanks!
Hi,
Why Film Simulation is not supported in Fujifilm XF10 RAF files? That's fairly new camera, released in mid 2018. Popular among street photographers. I tested some other raw development tools (On1, Silkypix) and they both supported XF10 film simulations.
I'm considering purchasing Capture One 20 (don't like Lightroom subscription model) but not being able to use Film Simulations is a big disadvantage for me (of course camera supports the film styles internally).
Thanks in advance.
I own an XT-30. Under auto I do not see the custom settings that I applied when shooting the image.
reading your manual I would think those would be applied to the RAW file. I see those custom settings and colors briefly when importing the files, But after that the files are reversed to a default state. Below images shot with diffrent settings but the RAW file reverts to a default state. Is it not possible or am I doing something wrong?
Hi Lily I have the X-T200 and the Capture One Fujifilm subscription license, not seeing the any film simulations.
only:
Base Characteristics > ICC Profiles > Fujifilm X-T200 generic
Base Characteristics > ICC Profiles > Curve
Thanks.
Hello Maryna,
Yes I am aware that CC is the effect that I am using, but I am guessing that it is not possible to see the custom White Balance and Highlights and other custom settings that I used in camera in the RAW file in C1.
Hi Roberto,
Please give us more details about your issue.
Also please check if you use the Fujifilm Film Simulation style that is supported in Capture One.
Hi Namita,
Thanks for your answer.
Color Chrome is the effect that you are using.
Please see the table above which lists Fujifilm simulations that are supported in Capture One.
Hi Maryna,
The Base Film Simulation is Color Chrome, that comes trough but not the tweaks that I made in camera to that Film Simulation. Adjusted White Balance or adjusted highlights are not reflected in the RAW file.
Hi Namita,
Please clarify what Fujifilm Film Simulation style you are using.
Also, please make sure that you have updated firmware on your camera.
Hi, same camera (x-t30), same problem as Namita Bhargava. Please help! Thank you
Base Characteristics Curve does not work with XT-4 HDR RAF files; I feel like this should be clearly mentioned as it has very inconvenient implications for continuity in edits where RAW(DR***) files are included.
Hello, I'm shooting an X-T2 and having issues with headshots being processed more orange than I will like. My ICC Profile = X-T2 Generic and Curve = Auto. Is there another Curve I should use to reduce the amount of orange I'm seeing?
Howdy, trying to work this out. If I have a custom film sim applied on my x-t2 with e.g. acros with highlight +4, grain effect strong, shadow +2. When I import the raf file in Capture 21 I can see it exactly as shot. If I create a duplicate then change the film sim to Classic Chrome will it also reset all the highlight, grain etc back to default? I’m trying to work out if there’s a way to do this in Capture 21. Thanks in advance.
No profiles for original X100 :( They are in Lightroom.
After no M1 support, no METAL API and this I'm moving to Lightroom.
Milo
Hi Namyta, thank you for your answer. I understand that C1 only recognizes the basic simulation setting, that the raw (RAF) file only keeps the profile of the original film, while any other custom adjustments are applied only to the jpeg? For example the choice of the amount of grain?
Real Ace is not showing up for me on my Mac. I just upgraded to the gfx100II from the gfx100s. What do you think I should do?
Hi, I have a Fujifilm X100V and Capture One Express for Fujifilm
In the X100V one can bracket with different film simulations which I did. This created 3 raw files which I imported in C1. According to the above article the film simulations should have been applied to the raw files however there is absolutely no difference between the raw files (and yes, the curve is set to 'automatic'). Does this only work with the full version or should it also work with Express?
From what I see the film simulations on Capture One Pro can only be used in RAF, not when working on jpegs? Nothing shows up in the Curve dropdown when working on jpegs but it does when in RAF. What options do I have if I prefer to work on jpegs but still want to take advantage of having a Fuji?
Hi Brenda,
Thanks for your comment.
Simulations can be used only for RAF, it is impossible to use simulations for jpegs because it has too little data.
The cameras themselves also work in this way, jpeg is saved only with a specific simulation and you cannot use another one.
Hi. Can you help me understand this feature better.? Are these curves mimicking the in-camera film simulations? Is it some kind of raw conversion recipe licensed from Fuji or is it reverse-engineered? I guess the acid test is : if I use one of these curves in post processing, will it look the same as that film sim applied in-camera?
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for your comment.
These simulations were created in cooperation with Fuji.
So you can be sure that everything will look the same as from the camera.
Thanks maryna. I just did a test, converting an image between profiles in x raw studio, (using my camera I believe) and also in capture one. But the results are different. That suggests it’s not the same — or is my test not valid?
The X-pro2 Fuji film simulations in Capture One are nothing like what comes out of the camera or X-Pro Studio. How can it be so bad? Did you actually try to make them look the same?
help! why can't I apply icc profiles when processing raw, when choosing a profile, nothing happens with the photo? my camera is FUJIFILM xt3
