I use two computers for tethering and both have the same issue. They are:-

iMac 27" 1TB SSD 32GB Ram 3.4 i7 Quad Core running High Sierra 10.13.6 (This was the unit I was using in regard to this recent event)

MacBook Pro 500Gb SSD 16GB Ram 2.5 i7 Quad Core running Catalina 10.15.6

    Capture One 20 version 13.1.1

No cards on the second day.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Is Network Camera Manager showing any entries?

Did you check the provided links?

Capture One v.13.1.2 is the latest version (having also official support for Catalina 10.15.6)

In the release notes, I noticed following recommendation:

"When you have disconnected a camera, do not reconnect a camera
until the Camera tool status changes to "No Camera Attached"."

Do you have a specific shutdown / switch-on order? Maybe the order matters: could you experiment with the order? If the order matters, there might be a certain order where the problem is easily replicated...

And there is this known issue (in case that you use Live View when tethering:

"Live View over USB can stall without the use of a repeater."

Network Camera Manager isn't showing any entries.

The order is as follows for a battery change, turn camera off, replace battery, turn camera on with Capture One running all the time.

I turned the camera on and off and disconnected at least 5 times to check if this problem would occur right at the start of day 1 the camera was recognised every time.

On a shoot the previous week it worked perfectly until we changed location in the afternoon, the laptop was powered the whole time and Capture one wasn't shut down between location, the camera was not recognised when reconnected.

FYI I use a tether tools USB 3 lead to connect to the camera using the Nikon USB cable holder.

    How long is that cable?

When I searched today for the Tether Tools USB3 lead, I got the impression that these cables are much longer (4.6 m / 15 ft) than the recommended length for USB3 (3m / 10 ft).

Did you study following link from Tether Tools? https://www.tethertools.com/blog/why-does-my-usb-3-0-connection-fail/

(and before you blame the camera and/or computer manufacturer for not fulfilling the specs: Tether Tools' cables are not certified either to comply with the USB specifications.)

If a cable, which is longer than 2 - 3 m [7 - 10 ft], does not include a repeater, I would not be surprised to experience (sporadic) connection issues...

Additionally, I would make sure that the camera is switched off long enough for CO to notice that the camera is disconnected and only then put the computer to sleep. Switching the camera back on (or reconnecting the cable) only after the computer and CO is running.
