to your last point: Try deleting with CRTL+CMD+DEL. that will throw the panels shown so you may make your deletion choice, which as I understand it is to permanently delete the less-useful images....

Yes, I have tried — both attempts succeeded. I updated a 14.0x catalog and a 14.xbeta catalog. the upgrade was swift and painless from what I can tell. MacOS Big Sur, typical 2019 MBP
