• JPEG preview used during import: Capture One displays the in-camera JPEG preview for speed, not the fully rendered RAW file. This rule applies for Import and Cull View. 
• Camera settings often ignored: Custom camera settings like crop, color, or picture styles are not typically retained, unless Capture One supports them for your camera model. The supported settings are Fujifilm Film Simulations and Nikon ICC profiles
• Zoom level impacts appearance: Images may look softer or less colorful at lower zoom levels. At 100%, Capture One renders the image with full accuracy.

How to get accurate color and sharpness

You can ensure your images appear correctly by adjusting a few settings and your viewing process:

• Use the ProStandard profile: If available for your camera, enable it under Base Characteristics to preserve natural tones and color transitions.

  

• View at 100% zoom: This shows how your image will be processed and exported.
  
• Calibrate your monitor: Regular monitor calibration ensures what you see in Capture One matches your final output.
• Use color-managed software: Compare your images using Capture One or another color-managed viewer to avoid misleading differences in color or tone.
• Check lens profile: Your image might have a lens profile applied in the Lens Correction tool. Feel free to apply additional corrections or disable those if necessary. 
  
  

Best practices when importing images

Here are some useful tips to ensure a smooth import experience:

• Enable “Include Existing Adjustments”: If importing from another catalog or session, turn this on to retain previous edits (It is under Adjustments>Include Existing Adjustments). Disable if you simply need to import RAW files.

• Check Base Characteristics tool: Remember to select ProStandard profile if it is available for your camera. It also makes sense to see what is currently set as a default setting (Save as Defaults for [camera model]).

Why does my image look blurry after import?

Try zooming in to 100%. Lower zoom levels might not render full sharpness or fine color details.

Why don’t my RAW files match what I saw on my camera?

Your camera preview is a JPEG processed using in-camera settings. Capture One displays its own RAW rendering, which may differ unless you manually apply similar styles.

My colors look wrong after editing — what should I check?

Ensure proofing is disabled unless you're actively checking for a specific export profile. Also, confirm your monitor is calibrated and that you're using a color-managed viewer.
