Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4/M5)
All releases from Capture One 21 (14.2.0) onwards provide native support for Apple Silicon Macs. Additionally, Hardware Acceleration on Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4/M5) machines is achieved using Metal – this is now also the case on Intel based Macs, if you are using Capture One 22 (15.3.0) or newer.
Previous versions of Capture One, that have not been designed with silicon based Macs in mind, will still run on Mac computers using the Rosetta 2 emulation platform. This is run by default and there is no need to change any preferences in order for Capture One to run.
The only known limitation when using Rosetta, is when it comes to tethering with Canon cameras. Download and install the latest firmware from https://www.canon-europe.com/support/ to try remedying this issue.
Recommended System Requirements for Capture One
For the best performance when working with high-resolution images and advanced edits:
- CPU: Intel or AMD with 4+ cores, or Apple Silicon (M1 or newer)
- Apple Silicon: M-series Pro, Max, or Ultra with 32GB or more of Unified Memory
- GPU: Dedicated GPU with 8 GB+ (Windows) or Apple Silicon integrated GPU (macOS)
- RAM: 16 GB or more
- Disk: Solid State Drive (SSD)
- Monitor: Calibrated display, 1920×1200 resolution or higher
Snapdragon NPU acceleration for select AI tools
Starting with Capture One 16.7.2, hardware-accelerated AI processing is available on Snapdragon-powered Windows on ARM systems.
When running on supported hardware, the integrated NPU is used to accelerate the following tools:
AI Crop
Culling
Dust Removal
Match Look
Retouch Face Skin
This provides faster, smoother interactions and reduces CPU/GPU load. Capture One automatically detects compatible systems and uses NPU acceleration whenever it is supported.
For Users with 4K+ Monitors
Working with 4K displays is more demanding. For a smoother experience in Capture One:
- Double the base system specs (e.g., 32 GB RAM, high-core CPU, faster SSD)
- Use a high-performance GPU with ample VRAM (8 GB or more on Windows)
- On macOS, opt for Apple Silicon Pro or Max chips, which handle 4K editing efficiently. Remember that Apple Silicon Macs share RAM between CPU and GPU, i.e. for driving a lot of screen real estate, you need ample RAM, at least 32GB for 4K and more for 5K, 6K and multiple screens.
Recommended Hardware Notes
We’re often asked which GPU or CPU to buy, but due to frequent hardware updates, we don't endorse specific models.
In general:
- Faster systems = better performance
For Windows:
- More VRAM on the GPU boosts editing and export performance
- More CUDA cores (NVIDIA) or Stream Processors (AMD) generally means better speed
For macOS:
- Apple M-series chips offer excellent performance without needing a dedicated GPU

Is CaptureOne 23 compatible with OS 13.0 Ventura?
Dear Sir/Madam
I have an licence key that i purchased and updated to version 22 on my windows laptop and i want to upload Capture one to my Macbook pro but it does not recognize the licence key .
Regards,
Ken Phelan
Hi,
Capture One 22 crashes on start running MacOS13.01...
Any fix for this?
Hi, after testing a lot Capture One Pro 22 a few month now on my MacBook Pro 14 with 16GB RAM, I have to say minimum should be 16MB and recommended size should be 32+, if you want to avoid this extensive memory swapping on a M1 Mac.
still no Linux support?
Hi,
I cannot find the fully relevant part to ask this, but from the time I have upgraded to the latest captureOne Pro on my MacBook Pro (2021) I have been having issues with importing images.
What happens: I puy my SD card and can see the images in the Import Images window, but when I press the Import button nothing happens.
Please help
I need some help with the program. Yet, I am sorry you asked for an evaluation. I have the newest OS (Windows 11) on a new Lenovo Surface Pro. I use an older Olympus E-1 DSLR with Zuiko lenses in some studio settings. I am computer and DSLR literate. I have extensively tried to get the program to locate my camera. And it won't find it! On the other hand, I use my old Windows XP and the original Olympus Studio, then there is no problem, except it's slow. Unfortunately, the program won't work on a Windows 11 system. As advertised, Capture One might work except it has fewer functions than the old Oly Studio dependable. That is all I have noticed to evaluate so far. But I may be able to live without them as soon as the new program becomes available to my Oly E-1 as it is presently advertised to do.
I was wondering about the iPad requirements. What generation and model is required ? Maybe there is an article on this but I haven't seen it so I found myself here! Thanks.
I hope they give you an answer. I have Cap 1, and it can't find my camera. It's an Olympus E-1 DSLR I use for some special projects. I have the original Olympus Studio software, and it works fine if I can keep it in a Windows XP environment. But use a Mac or Windows 7 come 11 and it's a rigged to be a bad bet that won't work. OM bought the software and they trimmed it down. It doesn't have the same functions available as the original studio tethering. I complained but they haven't gotten back. So, I am ignoring them until it goes away.

Hi, thank you for this lovely software!
I am wondering if there are plans for a Linux version.
I am trying to get away windows and mac on my personal computer and would appreciate this very much!
A lot of software that I use is luckily available on Linux already (Houdini FX, Blender, DaVincy Resolve etc.)
Dear Madam/Sir,
I have a phase One digital back P30 working on a Contax 645, and I was always able to use it in tethered mode till now, using Mac Book Pro early 2011 with FireWire connection and OS High Sierra. Using Capture One DB 8.3.4.19.
Now I have a Mac Book Pro Retina 13-inch early 2015 with Thunderbolt 2 and the Monterey 12.6.9 OS, I use the Apple adapter (thunderbolt 2 to FireWire) to connect the P30 to the computer, but Capture One DB 8.3.4.19 don't "see" the P30.
Is it possible to use the P30 in Tethered mode using C.O. DB 8.3.4.19 with this OS and Hardware configuration?
Which is the latest C.O. DB version that support Firewire Tethered connection and my hardware? Maybe using a later version of C.O. could solve this problem?
Thank you!!!
Kind regards
Andrea Paolini Merlo
Sorry!!! The Mac Book Pro early 2011 is running 10.11.6 El Capitain OS and not the High Sierra as I wrote before.
Andrea
Sorry!!! I solved the problem. :))
Thank you
Kind regards
Andrea
I am unable to get either of my Canon 5d Mark IV's to work with Capture One and I've tried a bunch of work-arounds. The cameras don't show up although my R5 does work. Any ideas from %D Mark IV users?
hello i buy capture one all , but after install my capture one is not working please help
I am using a Nikon D850 which is no longer showing tethered to capture one. If I open photos on my MacBook running Ventura OS 13.4.1, it shows the camera tethered but does not show tethered on Capture One.
I'm currently using the latest version of capture one on a M1 Max MacBook Pro, Im trying to connect my Canon R6 via usbc cable with the sd cards in it to use the recapture feature but it won't register my camera as connected unless I take out the sd cards. This completely defeats the purpose of the re capture. Will this be addressed in an update?
Hi I can´t use my capture one can you help me?

Zmieniłem komputer. Poprzedni uległ zniszczeniu, a tam miałem zainstalowany Capture One Pro 10 z wieczystą licencją. W jaki sposób mogę zainstalować ten sam program na nowym komputerze, tzw składaku?

Hello Lily,
I neither use Windows or MacOS. I use Chrome OS and Linux.
Are there any plans to support other operating systems or – even better – to bring Capture One to the cloud?
Thank you for your answer,
Florian
Hello,
I'm still waiting for a Linux version. Until then, I will continue using other (very good) application.
Inform me when you are ready.
