When shooting tethered in Capture One, you can save images to your computer and, with supported cameras, to the camera’s memory card at the same time. This setup provides a simple backup and lets you review images directly on the camera during a session.

How it works
In Capture One Pro 16.3.2 and later, you can enable the Save to camera memory card and Capture One when tethering preference. This option is enabled by default in the Preferences/Settings. When enabled and a memory card is inserted, the camera defaults to saving images to both Capture One + Card. If no card is present, it saves to Capture One only.
You can also change this setting at any time in Tether > Camera Settings, where it appears as Save To (Canon) or Recording Media (Nikon). This works for both wired and wireless tethering.
How to set it up
- Open Capture One.
- Go to Preferences/Settings > Capture
- Enable Save to camera memory card and Capture One when tethering in Preferences.
- Insert a memory card into your camera.
- Connect the camera to Capture One.
- Confirm the save destination is set to Capture One + Card.
- Optionally adjust the setting in Tether > Camera Settings.
FAQ
Does this work with all cameras?
Full support is available for Canon and Nikon cameras. Other brands may support it depending on their settings and firmware.
Can I change the save location manually?
Yes. Use the Camera Settings tool to switch between saving to Capture One, the memory card, or both.
Does this slow down tethering?
It can increase connection time because the system indexes the memory card. A card with many images may take longer.
Why didn’t my setting update?
The preference only affects new connections. Reconnect the camera or change the setting manually in Camera Settings. You can also restart Capture One if this change won't persist.
